Austin to Receive Two New Sculptural Installations by Chinese Artist/Activist Ai Weiwei
Austin will be receiving two new sculptural installations this summer by one of the world's most renowned activists, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. "Forever Bicycles", constructed from 1,200 bicycles and inspired by the bicyclists of Beijing, has previously graced New York, Washington, Venice, and London. Now it will reside at the mouth of Waller Creek at Lady Bird Lake. The more solemn, 18-foot-tall metal sculpture "Iron Tree Trunk" will be placed within the Marcus Sculpture Park upon the grounds of the Laguna Gloria art museum. "Iron Tree Trunk" is to serve as a conversation piece about the environment and human rights.
